💰 Lost Bitcoin Fortune: Judge Blocks IT Worker's $750M Landfill Dig
James Howells, an IT worker from Newport, Wales, just lost his court battle to excavate a landfill where he claims a hard drive holding 8,000 Bitcoins ($750M) has been buried since 2013. The judge ruled his case had no realistic chance of success.
The Loss Back in 2013, Howells mistakenly binned a hard drive containing private keys for his Bitcoin wallet. At the time, the crypto was worth far less, but today it’s valued at over $750M. Realizing the loss, Howells pinpointed its location at the Docksway landfill.
The Legal Battle Howells repeatedly sought permission from the Newport City Council to dig up the landfill. Despite offering expert-backed, eco-friendly plans, he was denied, with the council citing environmental concerns. A final court bid on January 9, 2025, was dismissed by Judge Keyser KC, ending his decade-long pursuit.
What’s Next? Howells, deeply disappointed, had previously promised to donate a portion of the recovered Bitcoin to the local community. Despite the legal setback, he remains active in the crypto space.
💹 Market Snapshot: January 11th, 2025 at 5:40 PM Pacific Time

While the market appears less exciting right now, it won’t be long until the bulls are back.
Have a great weekend!
